RESPONDING TO JOB POSTINGS
1. Read through the posted job opportunities. Look for a position that matches your background, skill set and career goals.
2. When you find a position that you want to apply for, create an LWA contractor account (if you haven't already done so) and then login. You must be logged in as a contractor before you can apply for a position.
3.
Upload a current version of your resume (if you haven't already done so) and then use the web site tools to review and proofread it as needed. Make sure that your resume clearly and accurately reflects your skills and experience, as well as the requirements of the positions for which you are applying.
4.
Next to the position you want to apply for, click the "Apply for this Job" link. The site will display a page where you can review the job details and send a note to LWA expressing your interest. Follow the on-screen instructions to apply for the position.
You can repeat this process to apply for multiple positions.
Your resume will be carefully read by each of our placement specialists. You may not hear from us immediately. Our goal is to create lasting, quality placements, and that can take time. Don't hesitate to update your resume periodically, highlighting new skills and professional experience.

WRITING YOUR RESUME
Layout
Hiring managers read through stacks of resumes, spending only seconds with each. Avoid being overly creative with the formatting of your resume, and maintain a consistent, clear visual hierarchy throughout.
Be precise and concise
Include the nature of your projects and your role in their development, specifying the platform, languages, tools and environmental factors involved. Include key words and phrases that highlight your experience. Use multiple pages if you must, but refrain from being redundant or verbose.
Dates are vital
If you have taken time off to travel or attend school, ensure that you account for the breaks in your employment.
Personal Interests & Information
Areas of expertise or in-depth knowledge of a particular subject matter, even non-technical, can be useful to our placement team. Be brief and keep in mind you will be judged primarily on your professional achievements. Refrain from discussing your marital status, age, and so forth.
Cover Letters
Cover letters can help us get a better sense of you, your availability and your career goals. However, they are seldom read by our clients' hiring managers.

Sample Resumes
We've provided examples of resumes (both Adobe .pdf files) that have kept two of our best technical writers in demand and working.
